I'm not as proud of this review, so i'm not putting it on the main page. Still, I love the album and the artist, so its here in the junk drawer.
God I have so much love for this album. I think I first heard its first track, bird tutorial, before any other. Much like some of the other albums and artists I’ve talked about here I was introduced to Gish through a Spotify discover in late 2019. This is one of those albums I almost always listen to all the way through. It has a more energetic feeling than some of her earlier albums, going from dummy parade to ed buys houses to this it feels gradual.
Some of my favorite tracks on this album have to be sin triangle, good magicians and imposter syndrome, but they’re all great. Mouth log I think is one of the weaker songs, but its slower pace still serves to split up the album thematically. The first half feels like an attempt to learn how to be like other people, while the second half feels like a refusal, peaking with persephone and imposter syndrome? Does that make any sense? I don’t know, I love this album but I don’t really know how to talk about it.
It’s like, The vibe of this album and the rest of the artists work is upbeat, poppy while still feeling like it scrapes against serious themes. It tackles real things like imposter syndrome and portrays them in comical ways with such creative lyrics that get stuck in my head all the time. If you haven’t heard any of Sidney Gish’s work yet I highly recommend it, it’s available for streaming and purchase just about everywhere.
